Strengthening our democracy through design and technology.
Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay and billionaire philanthropist, launched the Omidyar Group as a diverse collection of initiatives striving to catalyze social impact.
BRINK began working with Omidyar in 2011 and has been a partner ever since, building apps, websites, content campaigns and creative elements on an ongoing basis. In an industry where the average agency engagement is just two years, our enduring relationship has shown that good work and attentiveness keeps partners together for the long haul.
Our first project was designing and building a custom event application for the Omidyar Network Executive Forum, a global conference that brings together the investees and partners of the Omidyar Network. The app was a comprehensive event guide, digitizing the conference agenda along with organization, speaker and attendee information and the ability to connect with and engage other conference attendees.
The app eliminated thousands of dollars in printing costs, reduced event management resources, improved the attendee experience and favorability of the events, increased opportunities for interaction between attendees and encouraged social media conversations. And best of all, it was designed to be repurposed for a variety of Omidyar events over many years that followed.
Next we helped Omidyar launch a new initiative: Democracy Fund. The Democracy Fund invests in organizations working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promises to the American people. This was a special project for Pierre and a fund that became increasingly important as new challenges arose, including the election of Donald Trump in 2016 and the rhetoric and actions that followed.
BRINK built a timeless, enduring website and provided ongoing iteration and support for more than five years as the Democracy Fund team grew from one person to 50+ and its scope of initiatives grew substantially.
Over the years we’ve helped Democracy Fund launch a number of special initiatives. The most recent was a complete rebuild and rebrand of ElectionLine, America’s only source for non-partisan news and information about the people and processes that guide our nation’s elections.
Our re-imagining of the ElectionLine user experience involved an extensive discovery process to align a variety of stakeholder groups, each with different goals and pain points. The end result was a new platform that can grow with the organization.
We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Omidyar Group well into the future as consultants and collaborators.
Let’s see if we are the right fit.
