A “New Train of Thought” for BRINK

As leading consultancies like Deloitte and Accenture continue to acquire agencies and reshape the brand and digital marketing landscape, a scrappy, independent agency is competing by bringing “a new train of thought” to the antiquated, siloed and expensive approach that management consultancies are built on.

Danny Vinik and Josh Belhumeur, partners at BRINK — a creative group founded in 2001 with offices in DC and Tucson— have partnered with Chris Beauchemin, formerly a Director of Insights & Innovation at Wunderman, to launch PILKRO ( ¶ ), an insights and innovation consultancy focused on helping entrepreneurs and legacy organizations use a human-centered design approach to discover and define new growth and revenue models with reduced risk and investment.

“The only way for a business to survive in a world that is becoming increasingly competitive is to work fast, embrace change, and be relentlessly innovative when it comes to delivering value for customers. If you’re not pushing yourself to the brink, then you’re not taking chances. If you’re not taking chances, then you’re not innovating. This is exactly what PILKRO stands for– Helping clients identify opportunities and take calculated risks in pursuit of the next chapter of their story,” says Belhumeur.

Like BRINK, PILKRO unites big agency talent with a boutique approach that is fast, nimble, responsive and cost effective.

“PILKRO has a proven model that empowers clients to rapidly learn, test and iterate their way to vetted proof-of-concepts and go-to-market strategies,” says Beauchemin. “If you’re going to spend time, energy and resources coming up with a new idea, you better spend your time validating that you have the right idea and a market for it and you better do it quickly. Moving slow or over-extending internal resources can be detrimental.”

According to Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen, each year more than 30,000 new consumer products are launched and 80% of them fail. PILKRO wants to change that.

“PILKRO uncovered a pivot we needed to make to our business model and position in the market in the early stages. Their hands-on approach helped us quickly gain internal alignment and identified unexpected insights that helped us clarify the long-term vision we had for our business.

For the time being, PILKRO will remain focused on working with Washington, DC area entrepreneurs and business leaders.

“DC is at the forefront of innovation and filled with passionate entrepreneurs who have a desire to improve lives and solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. said Beauchemin. “We want to be a part of that— pushing innovation forward and moving new ventures forward,”
