HACIENDA DEL SOL

This is where my son & I stayed in Borrego Springs for the summer solstice celebration featuring Rick Shea & The Losin' End--kind of a supplemental to my piece in the 'Party' section...

I was in a retro mood, didn't want to have to drive more than a couple of miles, and didn't want to spend a lot of cash. The Hacienda del Sol fit the bill perfectly.

I chose one of the duplex units--the cottages don't have air and close for the summer. Affable manager Mike Gaffney gave us room #11. With brick walls and high-beamed ceilings the place holds the desert summer heat quite well. We turned the groovy orange key in the lock, hauled in our stuff, turned the air on full-blast and went for something to eat while the power company and freon went to work.

Looking as if it were decorated with yard sale finds and e-Bay scores, this place is a step back in time--or times. Red gingham curtains in the kitchenette, turquoise paint, a chrome and formica 50's style... more

Good story. Makes me glad I no longer have to fly 12 hours each way to Europe every month. I did it for over 25 years but after 9-11 with all the extra security crap, crowded flights and abuse by the very..

CHRISTMAS IN PARIS
Paris is one of my favorite places and you did a good job of conveying that special look it has. Maybe a little too heavy on the cemetaries for me but nice.
