Riviera Farms is in Borrego Springs in the Southern California Desert. Kjell Qvale built it in the late 1970’s as a winter training facility for his Thoroughbred racehorses. At that time it comprised of around 500 acres complete with it’s own racetrack and veterinary clinic. They employed over 20 full time workers and housed most of them on the grounds.
The house now stands on around twenty acres and covers about 4000 sq ft with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, swimming pool, spa and tennis court. The living room is around twelve hundred sq ft with a huge fireplace and wet bar at the South end.
Ms. DezertDenizen and I bought it around four years ago and raise South African Boer Goats.
For those of you not familiar with Mr. Qvale he is quite a Renaissance man. Through his company, British Motor Car Distributors Ltd., he was the first to import MG and Jaguar cars into the US. He also was the first distributor for VW on the West Coast of America.... more
