This was supposed to get uploaded last week, but due to 'technical difficulties' and a loooong weekend at The Stagecoach Festival...well, today's the day.

It was a hot time at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, CA. Sunday April 27, and at 106 degrees and 94% humidity, I mean that literally! Ah, but the music was even hotter!
We were packed in like the proverbial 'can of sardines' for the prelude to the April 30th memorial for Chris Gaffney in Long Beach.
This small but colorful 49 seat roadhouse was known as Linda's Doll Hut from 1989 until 2001 when owner Linda Jemison retired. It is also the place that Chris Gaffney & the Hacienda Brothers played their first gig.
On this night there was a woman that smelled like 409, one woman passed out on the floor in front of the jukebox, and who can forget the dude we called 'Porno Guy'-- he wanted to help me pee in the men's urinal since the women's was occupado. What a gentleman! (No, I did NOT take him up on his offer!) A gritty little hole-in-the-wall--I highly recommend it.
Taking pictures was a challenge, but I managed to get some after the crowd thinned a bit. (I guess Porno Guy didn't want to help with that!)
Sadly, I didn't arrive until about 3:30 and missed the first few sets. Dave Gonzales (of the Hacienda Bros.) was amazing as always on guitar, and when he spoke of Gaff, well...
The Ziggens played some great cowpunk/rockabilly/country stuff. I think they like marching bands. The Fab-u-locos, Kid Ramos, and Manny from the Blazers were all tearin' it up. I had been waiting for Big Sandy & his Fly-Rite Boys, and as usual they did not disappoint. Those cats flat git it. Love that stand-up bass!
Great music and a great time. I hope they raised lots of $$$.
It was a fitting farewell to one of the musicians I admire most. I'm just glad we don't have to say good-bye to his music.
