By Brian

Brian Turner is a former soldier that has written an award winning book of poems titled Here Bullet.  Dude also shares my name and for awhile, at least as far as I know, he lived on the same street less than a block away.  I saw his name and address in the phone book a few years ago and thought it was a hell of a coincidence.

Then I guess he got an unlisted number. Probably because of all the hot, nubile poetry groupies driving him nuts calling all the time.  Now they call me.

The first call was from a book store in Vermont.

"Hi I'm Brian Turner"
"Oh thank you so much for calling me back, I uh have some customers here in Battleboro and they uh we really love your work!"
"I'm sorry I..."
"We would love to have you her for a book signing. Do you ever make it to New England..."
"I'm sorry ma'am, you've got the wrong Brian Turner."
She sounded so disappointed as I told her "no wrong guy"
"Oh it was so nice of you to call though...do you know how I could get in touch with Mr. Turner?"

She sounded nice. I was thinking Jennifer Connely in a loose knit sweater and yoga pants...maybe having a drink of hot Cider up there in Vermont on a cold...
"No ma'am I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Have a good evening."

That was three years ago. His book was published back in 2005 and I still get two or three calls a month from women wanting to talk to this guy.

Tonight I get home from work and there's another message  it's damn hot here in Clovis and I drain an ice cold Pacifico in three gulps and immediately go back to the fridge for another. I take it back to my desk, sit down and notice the answering machine is blinking.

"Hi...I'm trying to contact Brian Turner. I'm a composer and have written a piece inspired by one of his poems...

She sounds nice. I'm thinking Hope Sandoval in my white Oxford shirt...the area code is 718 but I imagine she's trying to keep  it cool out at The Two Bunch Palms resort.

I pop the top on my beer and pick up the phone.
